Hello

Posted by jena on May 28, 2010 in Life

So, I just thought I would write a little. I have not written much here in awhile. A lot has been going on! Moab turned 8 and is getting baptized next Saturday. She only has 3 weeks left of school when she goes back on track. Nahvi is getting so smart, she is ready for Kindergarten but has to wait till next July. McKay is doing well at his job and loves climbing. I am enjoying being able to stay home with the kids and I just started doing Bootcamp every morning at 5:30 am.

I am looking forward to this summer, I love spending every day with my two beautiful girls!

Super Spence Day at Chick-fil-A

Posted by jena on Apr 5, 2010 in Kids, Life, illness

Hey everyone! How was your weekend? Ours was great, the kids went to Grandmas, I got a new professional camera at an affordable price, McKay and I went climbing with some good friends, we went to the shooting range to fire McKay’s gun and we enjoyed good Indian food and some time alone.

Now on to the real point of this post:

spence1

Well, as you all may already know, Moab’s friend Spencer is still fighting his battle with Cancer, he is just at the beginning of his battle. She was able to have a gameboy play date with him the other night. They just chilled and played gameboys together for a few hours. She came home beaming, knowing that she just helped Spence have an enjoyable night.

Back

Posted by jena on Mar 25, 2010 in Life

I think I am back.

I had my mouth surgery about 5 weeks ago. Boy did that set me back. I couldn’t sleep, didn’t want to eat right, and didn’t want to exercise.

Now, I think I am back. I actually went to bed last night at a decent time, not 3:00am.

I have the urge to get back out there and workout, and run! This is a good thing, since I am running in the half marathon on Saturday.

Whew!

Super Spence vs. Cancer!! Cancer is Lame!

Posted by jena on Mar 19, 2010 in Life, illness

3 years ago, I walked Moab to school for her first day of Kindergarten. I stood there with a lot of anxious Moms, watching our little innocent daughters and sons run around the tiny playground, making new friends, waiting for their first day of school to start, all of us trying to hide our tears as we let our little ones enter the great big scary world.

One of the first Moms I met was sweet Holly Gooch. Her little boy Spencer and Moab had a lot in common, both loved superheroes and using their imaginations and playing sports and the same Kindergarten teacher.

Fast Forward 3 years, sad news hits the Gooch family literally overnight. Handsome, funny, caring, athletic, artistic, sweet boy, Spencer Gooch is diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a malignant tumor in his parapharyngeal space on Feb. 2nd 2010. He will undergo 54 weeks of the highest and most difficult form of chemotherapy treatment as well as months of radiation which may also result in vision and hearing loss.

I cannot imagine the pain, the worries, the tears that this amazing family is undergoing right now. I cannot imagine how hard this must be for Spencer. Every day I read their blog my heart aches for him, for his family. Teaching Moab about cancer, and talking to her about what Spencer is going through is not something I thought would be a topic in our home everyday. She amazes me, Spencer amazes me, these kids are amazing, they are so brave, they have so much hope and faith.

None of my trials or my problems even come close to the pain and suffering and sacrifice that the Gooch family is going through and will go through and endure for the next year and possibly years to come. Be thankful for what you have, because in the blink of an eye, your world can be turned upside down and change forever.

We love you Spencer, Holly, Nate, Belle, Gavin!

Spencer, you can do it buddy, you can beat this thing. We are on your team along with thousands of others, cheering you on. Keep that smile and positive attitude, even though this is so hard, we all know you can do it!

You are Moab’s super hero, because you are a real super hero and you are amazing all of us. You are my super hero too! Thank you for being so brave Spencer!

Getting myself back on track…

Posted by jena on Mar 8, 2010 in Life, Weight Loss

is about as easy as trying to get a train back on the rails! Not that easy. Life caught up with me and I just went with the flow of things and got way off track! Gained a little weight back and feel like crap!

That is life, but I am really going to try to focus hard this next month because I really want to continue losing weight and feel good about myself!

It is hard not to just give up, but I care about myself too much to give up, so I am pulling myself back together!

The worst part about starting over is the pain and suffering I will need to endure until I am on track again!

First Half Marathon of the Year 2010!

Posted by jena on Jan 27, 2010 in Life, Running

This last weekend, I went down to St. George, Utah to run a half marathon with 10 of my friends. 5 of us ran the  half, and 5 ran the 5k and 1 was our cheerleader!

It was an awesome weekend with awesome friends.

I reached my goal of running the half in under 3 hours. I ran it in 2:53! Last time I ran a half my time was 3:09, I shaved 16 minutes off my time, I am so happy about this!

I want to keep myself motivated so I have a few races coming up:

  • 5k on the 30th of Jan.
  • 10k on the 13th of Feb.
  • 15k on the 27th of Feb.
  • Half Marathon on the 27th of March
  • 5k April 10th
  • 10k Earthday April 22nd

I have a few others after that, but I don’t want to look too far ahead in the future! Although, I am already planning on the St. George Half in 2011!!!

Looking forward to:

Posted by jena on Dec 6, 2009 in Goals, Life, Weight Loss

When I lose 26 more pounds I will have lost a total of 85 pounds! To get to my goal weight I will need to lose 35 more pounds after that which makes my grand total of weight loss of 120 pounds. I look forward to completing this task that I have been after for the last 2 1/2 years!

I am running in a few half marathons next year, one in January and I am also running in a 3 part race in Jan./Feb. The way it will work is I run a 5k, then 2 weeks later a 10k then 2 weeks later a 15k for a total of 30k and if I complete all 3 I get a medal. This 3 part race will be out at Saltair and it is going to be a lot of fun!

Once I complete my weight loss I would like to go to school to get my Diploma in Personal Training and Fitness so I can help others live a healthier happier life.

I have a fun year to look forward to!

31

Posted by jena on Oct 25, 2009 in Life

I turned 31 on Friday, the 23rd! I have to say it was a great one. I woke up to my family in bed with me, a bunch of presents and carrot cake for breakfast, how awesome is that? I also had McKay home with me so that we could get ready for the Science Lab booth we do for Moab’s school each year. The day was filled with gifts, emails, phone calls, texts, cards, facebook messages. I also got a big surprise from Moab’s class when I walked in, they were all hiding and shouted Surprise!, it was awesome! My Mom came out dressed as a cute Witch and took the kids to the carnival and home for a sleepover so McKay and I could run our booth. We were at the school from around 3:00-9:40 and then McKay took me to see The Vampire’s Assistant to end my awesome birthday! Thanks to all my friends and family for everything!

Okay, now for the lameness!

Wow, how lame is it that I didn’t find time to write on my blurg!? Well, not so lame since the week was spent working out, getting ready to run a 10k, making costumes, getting stuff ready for our science booth for Moab’s school carnival, my birthday and a bunch of other things I am not going to list!

I will do individual posts another day for the costumes, the science lab, and the 10k.

Here is to a good, not so busy week! Yeah Right!

The House is a disaster!

Posted by jena on Oct 13, 2009 in Cleaning, Life

Yeah, Hurricane NahviMo hit our home this weekend. Then, I decided to be lazy on Monday, so now the house has an extra day of mess! I am not looking forward to cleaning it.

So, I guess I better get started, it is obviously not going to clean itself. To bad the future wasn’t like the Jetsons told us it would be like. I was looking forward to Robot Rosie and automatic everything, I can’t believe the T.V. lied to me as a child! :)

Neglected

Posted by jena on Oct 9, 2009 in Life

Right now life is super busy and it has kept me from doing a few things I enjoy:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Drawing
  • Photography
  • Late night movies
  • Spending time with friends

It seems like this happens every October and starts to get a little better in November and December! I sure hope so, for my own sanity! :)

You know you are too busy when….

Posted by jena on Oct 7, 2009 in Life

You keep feeling like you are forgetting to do something and you didn’t write it down and you obviously can’t remember what it is, and it is driving you mad!

:) Yeah, that has been me, every day this week. So, if I told one of my friends out there, I would do something for them today, or if I am supposed to be somewhere today, and I don’t do it, or I don’t show up, please forgive me!

Thanks,

Snuggle Bunnies

Posted by jena on Oct 1, 2009 in Kids, Life

I love when I wake up with each daughter next to me, snuggling with me in bed. I can’t help but smile when they crawl into bed with me and cuddle because it is chilly and because they love me. One of the best parts about being a Mom is the constant love you get from your children. My girls love hugging and kissing me, and if they are not hugging and kissing me they are using me as a jungle gym. They are pretty good about staying in their beds, but sometimes I get an early morning visit and I can’t help but smile. They are growing up so fast and soon, these little cute things they do for me will slowly go away. Sadness.

I am laying in bed right now and Nahvi just walked by Naked and announced she is taking a bath, hmmm…. I guess I am done with my blurg post! Oh, the joys….

Once again, I am smiling and no explanation is needed!

I love the rain…

Posted by jena on Sep 30, 2009 in Life

I could live where it rains a lot. Something about the rain has always calmed me. I love getting comfy and reading a good book or watching a movie. I love heating up the tea pot and having a hot chocolate on a rainy day! I remember a lot of fun times with my sister out in the rain. We had a pump-up umbrella that gave us a lot of grief, but it was fun! Remember sending sticks down the gutters, or just running around barefoot in the rain? Good Times!

Today I am going to take the girls to the Library and to a movie at the Dollar Theater. We originally were going to the Zoo, but the rain changed our plans!

Come to a complete Stop!

Posted by jena on Sep 28, 2009 in Life

That is what my body wants, so I am giving in and resting today. I have been running , running, running for 3 weeks with no real breaks. It finally caught up to me with a cold and I was not able to rest this whole weekend. Not even my sprained ankle stopped me, but my cold is forcing me to take a little break. I hate this! I am not that sick but I know it will not go away unless I take it easy.

The kids are being pretty good about it. Moab understands that I don’t want to be running around and doing things so she is helping a lot. Nahvi thinks I am her servant so she is not as willing to give me a break! Little stinker :)

Lets hope I can kick this and get back to having a fun week with the girls before Moab goes back to school.

Fall=Comfy

Posted by jena on Sep 22, 2009 in Life

I just love Fall! I will miss summer, don’t get me wrong. This summer was awesome, not too hot, and full of fun! Fall is my friend! I love snuggling into my blankets, wearing my hoodie and slippers. I love hot cocoa and I love the smell and cold crispness when we leave the windows cracked open at night!

I love the color orange, and I love everything about the month of October! Oh, and I love that I am turning 31 on the 23rd of October this year! How cool is that, turning 31 in the month of Halloween, the best day of the year!

Random Thoughts - Long Post

Posted by jena on Sep 13, 2009 in Life

I have been doing a lot of thinking for the past few weeks. Life really does throw a lot of unexpected stuff at us, but I have found that if you take what life throws at you and you catch it and run with it or grow from it that things are not so bad!

My kids, I love my kids, they bring a lot of joy to my life everyday. They have also caused a few gray hairs to appear in the last couple of years, but who cares, I think I would look great as a Silver Fox! Ha!

My hubby, I adore McKay, he is a very kind man, and a lot of fun. He works so hard so I can stay home with the girls and he is such a trooper and does some pretty spontaneous things with me, I love him for it! I love waking up next to my best friend everyday.

My friends, I have a lot of people in my life that I deeply love and care about. I think friends are a very important part of life and happiness. Friends are there to fill in those little gaps that don’t get filled by our kids or spouses. I have found that they also help little pieces of our personalities come out that we bury inside when we become wives/mothers.

My Church, I love being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it brings a lot of peace, joy and happiness to my life. I can’t say ” I don’t know where I would be without the church in my life…” because I do know. My parents divorced when I was 3. I grew up in two homes, my main home with the church(when I was 9+) and my other home I visited every other weekend without the church. It was very black and white. One home we tried to go to church, make good choices, one home had smoking, drugs, alcohol, swearing all around. I saw two lifestyles, neither was perfect, but I did know one thing, that it was up to me to make a future for myself and I am glad for the choices I made and for the person I have become and for my husband and children. You know, it would have been easy to do drugs, drink, smoke, get into trouble, but life would be much harder now and I probably would not have my husband or my children. The thought makes me sad. I look back and if I could change my family dynamics, grow up in a home with 1 mom and 1 dad who stayed married forever, I WOULD NOT change a thing. I am who I am today because of what I learned from living in the situation I did and because I chose to be a good person and live a good, clean life.

My Hobbies, I love to run, read, write, draw/paint, play sports, see movies in the dollar theater, play games, cook. Some of these things have been neglected like draw/paint, and cooking and writing. I keep making excuses or blaming it on the kids that I don’t do these things, but really, I should be doing these things and I should be including the kids and teaching them. I think things would go much better if I tried including them. I do need some alone time for some things, like writing and drawing, but not always. I guess I just found something I should work on!

I think that is enough random for the day! 597 words, yeah, plenty!

Random

Posted by jena on Aug 15, 2009 in Life

Had a good week, but a crazy week. Monday, my family rode the train out to visit. We went to lunch and walked around the mall. Good times. Tuesday we went to the Beach with a bunch of friends, it was a nice, cool, yet sunny day. Wednesday I helped out at the school. I love getting out of the house and working at the school. It is a nice break.

Thursday was eventful, Nahvi and I went to a splash park with a friend. When our girls were done playing in the water, we went to the playground. The girls were having a blast until Nahvi bashed her head on the bridge and cut it open. We had to run to the Insta-Care so she could get stitches. It was very sad, but she is super brave. I took Nahvi upstairs to snuggle with her in my bed, when all of a sudden, she got a high fever. It had me freaking out. I thought it may have been related to the head injury. The insta-care suggested that we take her to the ER for a CAT Scan. We decided to watch her carefully for the night and take her in if anything weird happened. Thankfully she made it through the night alright. Her fever went away as soon as I called her doctor to get her in. I thought she may have strep, but the fever broke and she was back to normal.

Then, 5 P.M. hit and the fever was back, this time, not as high. She woke up around 8 P.M. and ate a good meal, and went to bed happy. When she woke up today(Saturday), fever was gone! Yay.

During these 2 days hanging out with Nahvi, I also finished reading Forest of Hands and Teeth. It just made it to my top 5 favorite books. I will do a review soon.

I am loving the rain today!

Happy Blogiversary! 3 years of Jena’s Blurgs!

Posted by jena on Jul 21, 2009 in Goals, Life

So, here I am, 3 years later posting on my beloved blog of blurgs! When McKay told me about blogging, I liked the idea of writing and keeping an online journal to keep friends and family updated with what we are up to. I did not realize how popular blogs were until I moved to Salt Lake County a year after I started my blog. It was a whole new world. Before, I would only read my Husbands, then, all of a sudden I had at least 10 to keep me busy, now, I could not even tell you how many blogs I may visit when I have a chance.

I hope that if you have stumbled upon my blog, you enjoy it. I rarely complain, so it is a real treat for the reader if I find something to rant about! I don’t post here to brag, I post to share a little slice of my life and sometimes I’ll share a brilliant idea or two ;)

Thanks for stopping by over the last 3 years! So since today, July 21st 2009, starts a new year of Blogging, I decided to set a few New Blog Year Resolutions or Goals!

Here we go:

I will try to post at least 3 times a week!

I will try to not get sucked into the Facebook Zone so I can spend more time on my blog.

I will try to come up with some fun things to look forward to on my blog that will keep you coming back for more.

Three is a good number to start with! Thanks again for stopping by. -Jena

Mini Post for today:

Sorry I have not written in awhile. Sometimes life just takes off! I have been having a wicked fun summer with my girls. My kids are in year-round school so we only have 3 real weeks of summer before the next school year starts. I have no problem with year round school, it helps me stay motivated for the girls so we can have an enjoyable summer! This is our last week of non-stop fun! Today we are going to Thanksgiving Point to see the Dino Museum and an IMAX. Tomorrow we are hitting the Movies, the Beach and a Bees Baseball Game. Moab gets to announce the players for one of the innings. Exciting!

Hope everyone has a great day!
